The idea for an Abbey Villa Ladies team was first mooted by Eileen Pollock at the Abbey Villa 50th Anniversary dinner in the Marine Court, Bangor in September 2005. A number of ladies, possibly the worst for wear, agreed to put themselves forward. The ladies compete in the Carnegie Women’s Intermediate League C which begins at the end of April and concludes in September with matches taking place mid-week. A Committee has been set-up to ensure the club is run properly, remains financially secure and in June 2006 the club was successful in a grant application to ‘Awards for All’ to purchase equipment and put members through relevant courses, etc. Any ladies interested in playing are more than welcome. Experience is not essential but may help. Excellent training is provided for girls all ages and levels of ability.
